This year, the Festival celebrates its 20th anniversary!

The first Moita Free Software Festival took place at the facilities of the now-defunct Independent University in Palheirão, in 2004, co-organized by Humaneasy Consulting and ANSOL – the National Association for Free Software, with the support of the Municipality of Moita, the Independent University, and various entities and communities related to Free Software.

The second edition of the Free Software Festival, organized in 2018 also by Humaneasy Consulting and ANSOL with the support of the Municipality of Moita, included a program of lectures, demonstrations, workshops, information, hackathons, an area for free software installation, live music, and other attractions. During the event, we had the presence and collaboration of the Ubuntu Portugal Community, Wikimedia Portugal, OSGeo Portugal, Drupal Portugal, D3, RepRap, Linux Tech, among others.

In September 2023, the third edition of the Festival took place, this time held at the Department of Electronics, Telecommunications, and Informatics of the University of Aveiro. This edition was co-organized by ANSOL, Humaneasy Consulting, the Ubuntu Portugal Community, Wikimedia Portugal, Associação Inércia, GLUA, ESOP, DevPT, Drupal Portugal, CryptoCafé, Flutter Portugal, ANPRI, and D3. It spanned three days and featured various presentations, workshops, debates, and much more.

In this fourth edition in 2024, the Free Software Festival celebrates 20 years and we will continue with this great event where we bring together the Free Software communities from our country.
